Bronze bottle vase

Japan, Edo period, 1603 – 1868

Height: 12 inches, 30 cm

Width: 5 1/2 inches, 14 cm

A bronze mallet-shaped bottle vase, the compressed globular body supported on a short foot and surmounted by a long neck that flares outwards at the end. The exterior is covered in a dark brown patina, which is suffused with apple-green flecks.
