Ceramic imitation of folded fabric by Setsu Junji

A ‘folded’ ceramic object in imitation of fabric, the outside decorated in underglaze red with a wavy pattern, suggesting ink flowing in water.  The object is marked in English: Junji. With the original wood tomobako, which is inscribed: Saiboku ryusetsu no utsuwa, Junji saku with the seal Setsu.  (Made by Junji, a ceramic vessel decorated with ink in fluid and folded design, with the seal Setsu).

 

Setsu Junji was born in 1975 in Kyoto, where he is based. He studied at the art design department of the Kyoto Seika University, graduating in 1998. He regularly exhibits at the Nihon Dento Kogeiten [Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibitions] and has held many solo exhibitions.
