Lacquer panel

A rectangular wood panel lacquered with abstract shapes in yellow, turquoise, red and pale blue on a black ground, roughly imitating a landscape; according to the artist, a ‘reflection of the setting sun’. The bottom left hand corner has the seal Byakkan.

The inscription on the accompanying sheet of paper reads: ‘Hensho, urushi fukei, Kano Byakkan dai kan, with seal Byakkan’ (Reflection of the setting sun, lacquer painting, by Kano Byakkan, with seal Byakkan). The artist Kano Byakkan has been active since 1974.
