Bronze box in the form of a duck, signed Joshin
Japan, Showa period, 1930s
A bronze box in the form of a duck. The white metal bird is depicted in recumbent position, the head drawn into the body and the long beak nestling in amongst its feathers. The base shows the bird’s well detailed feet and has a rectangular reserve with the signature of the artist: Joshin. It retains its original wood storage box, tomobako, which is inscribed: ‘Kamo, Joshin-saku, with seal Joshin’ (Duck, made by Joshin, with seal Joshin).
