A ceramic bowl of oval outline, the exterior covered in a sand-coloured grainy glaze, the interior glazed a smooth black tone. With the original wood box (tomobako), signed and inscribed Kawakami.

The female potter Tomoko Kawakami was born in 1957 in Takayama city, Gifu. She has exhibited and continues to exhibit her work in Japan and abroad. Examples of her work are included in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan Foundation, the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, the Faenza International Ceramics Museum and the Mino Ceramic Art Museum in Tajimi.
