A wood sculpture in the shape of a square pillar, composed of nine/ten sections, some carved to display a sphere, some with a central dent. The sculpture retains its original tomobako, which is inscribed: Meidai, rensaku, inyo. Sakusha: Yokoyama Miki. (Title: Ying and Yang, part of a series. Artist: Yokoyama Miki)

 

The woodwork artist Yokoyama Miki (born in Showa 20, 1945, also known as Yokoyama Ichimu II) is based in Toyama Prefecture and regularly exhibits at the Nitten Exhibitions. He has followed in the footsteps of his father Yokoyama Ichimu (1911-2000), a renowned wood artist who exhibited at the Nitten Exhibitions and was councillor of the Nitten Exhibition Committee. In 2008, the Tonami City Museum (Toyama Prefecture) held a solo exhibition entitled The Works of Yokoyama Miki. The artist remains active today and produces works concerning nature and life.
