Hardwood stool
China, Qing dynasty, 1644 - 1912
A rectangular stool made from hardwood, the square legs with an overhanging top and joined by humpback stretchers. The legs terminate in scrolled feet. The table has a paper label attached to the underside, reading “Mayfair & Company,
Hong Kong and Tientsin Bazaar, San Francisco”.
Mayfair & Company made many things, including furniture in Hong Kong and retailed it through its San Francisco company Tientsin Bazaar in the beginning of the twentieth century.
